The Cold and the Dark by Brian Cromarty

The Cold and the Dark

When you’re born under a big sky, and there’s nowhere to hide
You can build it up or burn it down, everybody can see you try

And you’ll cast a lonely shadow at the edge of the world
Either side of the summer it’s not for everyone

It’s a funny kind of love for the cold and the dark

And a word can knock you sideways when you’re stood in open ground
And you’re best to head for cover ‘fore the lightning cuts you down

You can turn up the heat if you can afford the bill
We’re making more than we can use but the price is rising still

It’s a funny kind of love for the cold and the dark

It’s whatever you want to make it but from here it’s only home
And it doesn’t feel all that different when it’s all you’ve ever known

But I’ll always feel like I’m lifted when I’m stepping off the plane
Brave that old cold crystalline lungful facing down the driving rain

It’s a funny kind of love for the cold and the dark
