The Heart Of The Ocean
Eyes play tricks. Lips tell lies. But hearts stay true, and while you drown in the warmth of icy water, you’re protected like a baby swaddled in a blanket by their mother; preserved by the ocean’s rhythm. Waves mimic your beating heart, a conversation no one else hears or understands. You close your eyes, lips pressed shut, as you open your heart up to embrace your fate, your future, the very thing you have wished for all your life. You feel it consume you as it surges through your veins, making you heavier and lighter all the same.
As the last of the oxygen in your lungs escapes as bubbles, fishing nets trap your legs pulling you to the sea bed, tying you to colourful cutting coral. This doesn’t scare you though. No, how could it! The sea had provided so much already, she taught you how to swim and breathe and survive the most dangerous of wrecks. All she asked for in return was trust and that was a price you were prepared to pay, till the glowing moon stopped making tides by the white shores. Your gentle hands attempt to untangle the nets from coral. You know you have the ability to release yourself, but knowing and doing are like Sailfish and Marlins.
You close your eyes again and feel the pulsing in your arteries. It was your storm to navigate now. A chance to prove yourself worthy of the pearls around your neck. For once, trust yourself.
